The former allies in past elections are now strong rivals in the coming May 9, 2016 national and local elections in the province of Surigao del Norte and Surigao City.

Climate Change Secretary and lawyer Mary Ann Lucille L. Sering will challenge former Surigao del Norte governor and congressman Robert “Ace” S. Barbers (NP) in the 2nd Congressional District elections.

Sering stepped down from her post from the Climate Change Commission to run for Congress. Sering, a member of the Liberal Party, assumed the post of Climate Change Commission chief in 2010. Before entering government service, Sering was associate dean of the San Sebastian College of Law. She also taught environmental law and banking and finance subjects.

Way to go, Lucille!
